Gits - Instant Dosai Mix review

 on  with No comments
In ,
Another superb Breakfast mix offering from Gits is Instant Dosai Mix. Its a blessing for all dosa lovers like me who do not have the time or energy to devote to make the dosa batter but still relish home made dosa as breakfast on a lazy Sunday morning.

You just need to water to the mix and stir up a smooth batter. Keep the batter aside for 5minutes and it is ready. Heat a non stick tava, and pour the batter like you do for making dosas. Sprinkle a quarter tsp of oil on the sides and cook on medium heat. I added onions and coriander for extra flavour.I somehow love the taste on onions in my dosa. Instructions are clearly mentioned on the pack and is helpful for beginners as well.

The company claims that there are no added preservatives, no artificial coluor, no artificial flavouring and MSG in the mix and it is 100% vegetarian.

A 200g pack of the mix makes about 8 dosas and is priced at Rs. 35 which is very affordable if you compare it with South Indian meals in a restaurant where a single dosa might cost you around Rs.50(if not more). The pack comes with a sambhar mix of about 50gms.

Lets take a quick look at the pros and cons of the product:

Pros:
1. Very easy, batter ready in seconds
2. Authentic south Indian taste
3. Easy on the pocket
4. Healthy and nutritious

Cons:
1. I didnt like the taste of the sambhar

I would say, its a quick mix and makes life easier for all of us but does not compromise on the taste. To add to that, it is easy on the pocket as well :)

Gits Instant Idli Mix Review

Idli is the healthiest breakfast option one can think of in the morning. The look of soft, fluffy steamed idlis can totally make your mornings. However, working couples opt for roadside shops or restaurants for idlis to satisfy their taste buds. The reason being the process of making the  batter. It requires soaking the rice and dal overnight, which makes it mandatory to plan in advance. Further, grinding the dal and rice and making the batter is a time consuming process.

Therefore, more and more companies are now coming up with instant mixes for idli and other South Indian recipes.

I recently came across this Gits Rice Idli mix. The best part of the product is that you can just mix it in water instead of curd like a few other products in the category. The product also offered free sambhar mix in the pack (which promised to make 4 cups of sambhar).

As the instructions on the pack read, I mixed the mix in water and the batter came out really smooth. I used my microwave for steaming the idlis. You can use a pressure cooker also for the same.

For steaming the idlis in the microwave, there is a special microwave idli steamer and cooker which I have, perfect for steaming idlis, dhoklas and rice. The results are surprisingly good everytime I steam anything in it and is my favourite when steaming idlis or vegetables.  You just have to put about 2 small cups of water and steam the idlis for about 4 minutes. You might grease the plates. However, its not always necessary.

Idlis with Gits Instant Idli Mix came up extremely soft and fluffy with an authentic South Indian flavour to it. This kind of idlis are a sure winner every morning :)

Lets evaluate the Pros & Cons :

Pros:

Extremely soft and fluffy Idlis
Authentic South Indian Flavour
No need to add curd, only water does the magic
Ready in a jiffy (if using the microwave, only flat 6 mins)

Cons:
Well, I did not find anything :) I am quite satisfied with the product.

However, it would have been better if the measurements were given in terms of cup measurement rather than proportions been given in terms of grams. It just makes life a little more simpler. :P

With Zero cholesterol and zero oil used, it is definitely one of the healthiest breakfast one can think of in the mornings. :)
